Buddy Icons, Avatars & Emoticons

Table Of Contents

This page contains some “Buddy Icons” I drew for the likes of AOL Instant Messenger and MSN Messenger, between the era of about 2002 to 2009.

Most of these buddy icons were used by my various chatbots.

AOL Instant Messenger

AIM used 48x48 pixel images for their buddy icon.

My AIM Chatbots

These buddy icons were used sometimes for my various chatbots on AIM.

An icon of the AIM running guy with the text Chaos underneath. The AiChaos logo in green against a blue background. A rainbow themed avatar of my chatbot named Casey Rive. A generic icon that has the text “Ai” and “ROBOT” written on it. A generic chatbot icon featuring the ALICE AI Foundation’s logo and AIML text. A blue Azulian named Cyro. A super Azulian named Blaine. A mega Azulian named Cyan. A hyper Azulian named Koda. An ultimate Azulian named Chaos. A perfect Azulian names Siko. A mecha Azulian. The wireframe Azulian. Animated Hyper Azulian. Animated Ultimate Azulian.

My Selfie (AIM)

I found a couple of icons where I used my own picture. I also had 96x96 MSN display picture versions of these.

A selfie of my face in front of a green and blue AiChaos logo. A selfie of my face in front of a light blue and white AiChaos logo.

I also have this old, old buddy icon from one of my original AIM screen names, WaterEden. The logo was supposed to be the letters “WE” combined and rotated:

My WaterEden logo.

And a “CjK” icon, named for the Internet alias I landed on, Cerone (or Casey) James Kirsle:

Misc AIM Icons

A cyan and purple spiral graphic. A logo for The Land of No Return. A glowing blue orb among stars.

MSN Messenger

MSN Messenger featured higher resolution, 96x96 resolution display pictures.

My MSN Chatbots

The Azulian Bots

My very first chatbots were themed around the creatures I made up called the Azulians.

There were three Azulian bots in total: Chaos (the grey Azulian), Koda (in purple) and Siko (yellow). These three were the mascots for my faux chatbot organization, “Chaos A.I. Technology” later renamed to AiChaos.

There were a bunch of MSN display pictures for these guys themed around various holidays and occasions.

Cody Ferako

My chatbot named Cody Ferako had a humanoid appearance that I hand drew in Adobe Flash. He was also a main character in my story about the Azulians.

Casey Rive

My chatbot named Casey Rive had a humanoid appearance with an avatar inspired by the Yahoo! Messenger character style.

My Chatbot Software

I also had some ‘default avatars’ that shipped with my various chatbot programs, so when other people would run their own bots using my software, they had some avatars themed around the software they could choose from to get started.

Many of these featured the “Chaos A.I. Technology” / “AiChaos” logo, a unique symbol I created inspired by the bio hazard symbol.

My Selfie (MSN)

These are slightly higher res (96x96) versions of my AIM selfie icons above.

Some other general purpose avatars:

Some avatars that showed off some TrueType fonts I made:

The original Azulian language font. The updated Azulian Nexus language font. My font face named Rive.

Custom Emoticons

Back before the era of the Emoji icon, websites, forums and apps all had to create their own custom emoticon pictures. I also had dabbled in designing my own emoticons to use on websites I built, or to use as custom emoticons on MSN Messenger.
